Novinger at Brashear February 15, 2008

The Brashear Tigers pick up a pair of wins on homecoming night.

It was a special night at the Brashear gym Friday. Not only was it homecoming, but Brashear was also honoring the players from the two back-to-back state championship teams. This is the 5th anniversary of the Brashear Lady Tigers first state championship.

In the girls game, Brashear scored the first 4 points and led 13-6 after one quarter. Novinger bounced back in the 2nd period of play and led 26-23 until a Hailee Kelsey 3 pointer tied the game as time expired in the 1st half. Brashear held a slim 38-37 lead after 3 quarters of play and it was anybody's game as the clock ticked down with the score tied 48-48. Enter Caroline Slavin with a jumper from the elbow with 1.7 seconds left to seal the victory for Brashear. Slavin finished the night with 10 points for Brashear, Hailee Kelsey and Jessi Hill were also in double figures with 16 and 12 points. Stephanie Elsea added 6, Emily Ladwig had 4, and Abby McKim scored 2 points. For Novinger, Katelyn Brawner had 22 points, Kelsey Potter had 12, Katie Moore had 6, and Sydney White and Trisha Potter scored 4 points each.

The Brashear boys jumped on Novinger early to take a 20-10 lead after 1 quarter and a 45-22 lead at halftime. By the end of the 3rd quarter, Brashear had extended the lead to 66-36 and picked up the win by a final score of 78-45. Matt Thomas led all scorers with 19 points with Kale Watson right behind him with 18 points. Trae Treasure added 13, Anthony Ambrosia had 7, Justin Hazen and Ryan Ferdig had 6 each, Kiley Watson had 4, David Anderson had 3, and Jacob Owen scored 2 points. Novinger was led by Aric Luman with 11 points, Caleb Dodson, Wes Totsch, and Cory Smith had 9 each, Dakota Jacques had 6, and Tell Ruggles scored 2 points.
